While I have come to the harsh realization that my attending of games in 2010 came to an end in August, the time is coming for the rest of Pirate fans that are still back in Pittsburgh. For a team is not going to be the playoffs the season may as well be over after the last home game, which is Sunday.
I haven’t had a second to breathe since coming to Ohio University, but now that I have a moment, I’ll sum up my 2010 briefly with the top 5 moments for me.
4. New all time high for snags during BP/games
I have never taken batting practice seriously until this year when I threw my hat in for the BHL. I had an up and down year but all in all I couldn’t help but be satisfied with my pull this year. All in all I got 34 balls. Since I’ve never done this before I wasn’t sure what to expect. Next year since I’ll again be limited to 25 or so games Im hoping to get 50 balls.
3. Meeting Neil Walker and other players outside the garage.
Its one thing to see a player at a public appearance or a game, when they act like baseball players. But getting to meet Neil Walker and other players leaving the game gave me and a few lucky others a candid look at what the players are like off the field. It also gave me an idea who the true good guys of the team were.
Maybe it was the irregularly good game I had both during BP and getting autographs. Maybe it was the sellout crowd exploding to life after Chris Snyder’s 3 run homer. Maybe it was me and and my friends eerily calling Ian Stewart’s game tying homer in the bottom of the 9th. But I think it was this.
In my 150+ games that I have attended in my life, I have probably seen 3,000 foul balls hit into the stands as foul balls. Never had I gotten one until the day of June 7th 2010. Rarely would a 6-1 loss that was a rain-out makeup be so memorable. I was not only able to get one but i got two.
Though the season is coming to an end, you can still follow me here on this blog and on twitter @suhlmann12. There I post the usual thoughts on sports plus when I’m in the press box for Ohio U events.
All in all it was a great season and I’ll be counting down the days until 2011
It has been an unbelievably crazy week here in Athens. While I’ve been getting situated and meeting some really cool people. I stumbled upon this video on the Pittsburgh Penguins website. The Penguins made a visit to PNC Park and the players got their chance to try their hand at BP. Of course one player stood out beside the rest.
Sidney Crosby, the face of the Penguins and arguably the NHL launched a homer estimated at 370 ft into the right field seats above the Clemente Wall. This should be no surprise as the prodigy was an all-star baseball player up until when he was 13 when he decided to focus solely on hockey. I just hope whoever found that ball held onto it.
If I owned the Pirates. I would get this man in a jersey for a game at bat. Face it, if Billy Crystal could step up to the plate in an MLB game, why can’t Sid the Kid?
